Implementing the Atlantic Action Plan: Workshop on Funding and Project Development - London

Promoters:
Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Support Team for the Atlantic Action Plan
Place:
The Westminster Conference Centre, 1 Victoria Street, London SW1H 0ET
Date:
04/06/2015
Summary:

The Atlantic Strategy was launched by the European Commission in late 2011 to identify key challenges and opportunities to create jobs and foster economic development. In the UK, some of the worst performing segments of the economy are found in coastal areas, although the potential of the Atlantic Ocean and its resources to provide sustainable jobs is at the heart of the Atlantic Strategy.

The Atlantic Strategy was followed by a bottom-up approach to identify research and investment opportunities for the Atlantic Area, which included hosting Atlantic Stakeholder Forums in each of the five EU Atlantic Member States, as well as public consultation. The priorities established form the basis of the Atlantic Action Plan, which was adopted by the European Commission in mid-2013, providing a common ground for the five Member States to work together to revitalise their maritime economies.

The support team for the Atlantic Action Plan was created in late 2014 to provide guidance and proactive support for stakeholders and investors to find funding sources and project partners across the Atlantic to implement the Action Plan.

This workshop is the first UK National Event that aims to bring together public and private sector organisations, research institutions, investors and other stakeholders with an interest in developing projects to implement the objectives of the Action Plan (www.atlanticstrategy.eu for further details on the Action Plan).

What can you expect to get out of the event? As there is no direct funding mechanism to implement the Action Plan, projects will have to be financed through existing funding instruments – come along to find out what funding streams at local, regional, national and EU level are available (including, information on calls for EU funding streams such as Life+, Horizon 2020). The UK Government will discuss use of European Structural and Investment Funds in the context of the Atlantic Strategy. You will also learn about the role of the Support Team and how we can help you to form project consortiums and project proposals.

The event will also host workshops to discuss project ideas, meet partners and take the first steps in developing project ideas into potential project proposals.

We hope to see you on the 4th June in London to start to help you take your project ideas forward, with a clearer view on potential funding sources and the support we can offer.
