VAST (Value Added Service Technology) Platform for Atlantic Region

Parameter Space is leading an ESA-funded project to develop a prototype platform for analysis tools and Earth Observation data for the Atlantic region (https://parameterspace.ie/projects-vast-eo/). We are interested in determining the common issues and goals of the regional and European initiatives in the Atlantic area, as part of the first phase of the project. We hope to use the development of the platform as a tool to enable the achievement of these goals.

Objective:
The aim of the project is to build a prototype web-based platform which would incorporate software tools that are useful to users of Earth Observation data (e.g. Sentinel, Landsat etc). This will allow users to make use of existing available software (e.g. the Sentinel toolboxes produced by ESA), or upload their own tools, to analyse large data sets in a high-performance capacity, without the requirement for large volumes of data transfer.
Beneficiaries:
Users of satellite and remote sensor data in the marine, coastal, maritime security, emergency management, agricultural, urban planning, hydrology, flood mapping and forestry sectors.
Main activities:
1. Establish requirements and specifications from potential users of the platform. 2. Design, build, test and implement a prototype platform, to be made available to interested parties for further trials. 3. Use the outputs of the trials to establish a roadmap for full implementation of the regional platform.
Main deliverables:
The main deliverables are a web-based platform incorporating software tools and access to satellite and ground sensor data, with the power to process large volumes of data and computationally intensive analysis procedures, and a roadmap detailing the full implementation of the platform as a follow on project.
Partners needed:
Any with an interest in Earth Observation, or other large data sets which could require cloud computing
