November 2019

Register now, or regret it forever (or at least until next year)

The 6th Atlantic Stakeholder Platform Conference (ASPC2019) is approaching!

  • When: 12th - 13th November 2019
  • Where: Centro de Congressos da Alfândega do Porto, in Porto, Portugal

Registration closes at the end of the day on the 6th, though we may extend the deadline a little!

We would love to see you there, and encourage you to register ASAP.

But what is happening at this event? Great question, read on for details.

Day one, it begins

We begin at 1300 on the 12th November (our event is taking place within the framework of Business2Sea). Following information on the updated Atlantic Action Plan there will be two parallel workshops:

  • Workshop 1: Environmental actions on Atlantic coastal waters implemented by INTERREG Atlantic Area - The INTERREG Atlantic Area programme will highlight in this session the environmental actions on Atlantic coastal waters and bring some Atlantic projects that, through their expertise, are working together to tackle common challenges affecting the areas involved.
  • Workshop 2: Atlantic Ports as hubs for blue economy (limited places - by invitation only) - This interactive workshop will centre on the role of ports as blue economy hubs in the EU Atlantic area, the use of open innovation concepts with relation to ports, gather insights about the thematic areas with innovative potential and relevance for the Atlantic ports and related ecosystem and to explore the creation of a network of innovative ports.

Want more? We have it covered, here are other options for you during the afternoon:

  • Sign up to the B2B and present your products and services in private, pre-arranged bilateral meetings. Who knows, maybe you will make it into the next EASME Ocean Health publication. Are you looking for help? set up a meeting with our National Hubs.
  • Check out the exhibition stands and interact with project holders to learn more about their own Atlantic actions.

Then indulge yourself, register your attendance at the conference cocktail when you sign up for the event.

Day two. Decisions, decisions

Invigorated by the first day we dive into day two, with two rounds of two parallel workshops, as well as continued exhibition stands and B2B meeting possibilities.

Workshop 1a

  • This workshop will give an overview of the existing digital solutions of the blue economy developed in the Atlantic Area. There will be presentations on good practices and experiences in the development and financing mechanisms that support existing digital solutions, as well as discussion on opportunities and constraints to developing new start-up projects deriving from research and innovation produced at universities / research institutions. Finally, there will be discussion of strategic innovations for the development of the blue economy and project ideas that might be considered within the topic.

Workshop 1b

  • Are you a company looking for funding to develop a cutting-edge technology, and you don't know how to do it? Have you developed an innovative product and you need an investor to place it on the market? Then this workshop is for you. Learn more about the new funding opportunities and services EASME – the Executive Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises - can offer you in this interactive workshop.
  • Coming to this workshop? Take this quiz, the results will be discussed by EASME on the day.
  • Side note: check out our latest funding opportunities here.

Workshop 2a

  • SIMAtlantic will in this interactive workshop showcase the current status of MSP implementation in Atlantic countries and describe how the SIMAtlantic project will address these. The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to the SIMAtlantic Project followed by a panel discussion with representatives from EU member states. The second part of the workshop will be interactive, discussing the opportunities and risks associated with the four key themes of the project.

Workshop 2b

  • The EU - Canada - USA Galway Statement and the EU - Brazil - South Africa Belém Statement were the basis for building an Atlantic Community that shares a vision for the Atlantic Ocean. Under the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance, several initiatives and projects have been launched. In addition, the first All-Atlantic Ocean Youth Ambassador Summer School took place on 22 - 27 August 2019 in Galway, Ireland, with follow up actions programmed. This workshop will gather a panel of testimonials from stakeholders involved in the design and the implementation of this overall Atlantic alliance as well as project leaders who make it a reality.

After all that, and some closing words, by 1300 you can do as you please!
